Academy of Dance’s Annual Nutcracker
“The Nutcracker” ballet will be held at Central Kitsap Performing Arts Theater on Saturday, December 14th at 5:00 pm and Sunday, December 15th at 1:00 pm.
“The Nutcracker” is produced by Carla Olson and directed by Sawyer Taylor. This traditional version of the ballet features a talented cast of child, teen, and adult dancers. Based on the story by E.T.A. Hoffman and featuring Peter Tchaikovsky’s lilting score, “The Nutcracker” has been a holiday tradition since its premiere in 1892. It tells the story of a young girl, Clara , who receives a wonderful nutcracker one Christmas Eve from her mysterious Godfather, Herr Drosselmeyer . Later that evening, Clara protects her beloved gift from an invading army of mice and a giant rodent, the Rat Queen, and is rewarded for her bravery when the Nutcracker is transformed into a handsome prince. Clara embarks on a spectacular journey through the snow-covered forest, led by the Snow Queen to the enchanted kingdom, the Land of Sweets, where Clara is escorted by the Sugar Plum Fairy and treated to a variety of wonderful dances from around the world.
